USA: Thousands cruise through Wheels New Car Show

Wayne and Shorty O’Banion of the Village of Bonita take a closer look at the features on a Nissan Leaf, an electric vehicle from Lake Nissan, during the 2012 Wheels New Car Show on Saturday at Lake Sumter Landing.

THE VILLAGES — Elena and Ed Matteson are seriously looking for a new car, so there was no better place to look than the Wheels New Car Show on Saturday at Lake Sumter Landing Market Square.

The Mattesons, along with thousands of curious customers, were able to inspect scores of brand-new cars from area dealerships by testing out the seats and checking under the hoods and in the trunks.

“This is a good way to get an overall view of all the vehicles out there to make an intelligent choice,” Elena said. “You can compare one brand to another, which is great.”

The Mattesons were beaming with excitement as they sat in a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro convertible. There were several features that stood out to them.

“I love the lines of the Camaro,” Ed said. “Plus, it’s a convertible.”

The Wheels New Car Show gave Sam Harris a chance to see how the Volkswagen Beetle has evolved over the years.

“I have owned three Beetles and this one is a lot better inside than any of those were,” Harris said about the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle on display. “This is way more spacious.”

A gray 2013 Ford Mustang convertible caught the eyes of Joe and Kathy Singleton of the Village of Largo.

“I already have a 2009 (Mustang Bullitt), but I really like the little changes made on the inside,” Joe said, smiling. “The leather seats and the center console are wonderful.”

Kathy said she enjoyed coming to the car show because there was no pressure and she could get a good feel for what she liked
