GM’s Ampera Proves Its Efficiency At RAC’s Future Car Challenge

GM’s British division won big in the Royal Automobile Club’s Future Car Challenge 2012 held last weekend.

The Volt’s European version, the Ampera, won Energy Efficiency Awards in both the “Best Car in C segment” and “Best Range Extender/Plug-in Hybrid” categories for production vehicles.

Overall, the Vauxhall Ampera proved to be the most energy efficient vehicle on the British market in the medium car segment, scoring better than all plug-in hybrid powertrains.

Meanwhile, Vauxhall’s technology of the future was also present in the form of a hydrogen fuel cell powered electric vehicle from the European test fleet. The special prototype was named HydroGen4, scored top efficiency marks, and won “Best Hydrogen Fuel Cell EV.”
