50 all-new vehicles ready for their close-up at the upcoming 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show

BMW premiered its i8 plug-in hybrid concept car at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show, and is expected to debut the i8 Spyder roadster at this year’s show.

You are what you drive in Los Angeles, arguably moreso than in any part of the USA. Gawkers, tire-kickers and potential 2013 buyers will all gather this Friday for the Los Angeles Auto Show, and this year’s fleet showcases a number of world debuts ranging from electric vehicles to performance and luxury rides. That so many new cars are being introduced is further evidence of the recovery of the auto industry from the doldrums of just three years ago.

Debuts include world-firsts from Chrysler, Ford and General Motors, as well as European automakers such as BMW, Fiat, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Volkswagen. Show-goers also will see global unveilings of Asian brands including models from Acura, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Subaru and Toyota. The debuts also include the latest in-car technologies as well as highlighting fuel-efficient, hybrid, electric and alternative fuel vehicles. Green is especially in as gas prices continue to inch up, and attendees will see two dozen all-electric or plugin electric models at the show, at least a dozen clean-diesel vehicles and nearly 20 vehicles achieving 40-plus mpg with highly advanced four-cylinder gasoline engines
