The emerging cleantech ventures pilot has been supported by government grants now it is time to scale. Cleantech requires significant funding, often larger than traditional vcs are structured to support. How does a cleantech venture scale to grow? Hear from national project developer Constellation Energy on the emerging technologies they seek for internal deployment and the corporate milestones they look for emerging ventures to demonstrate, hear from both the CEO and VC of NY based Primet Materials (battery applications) on their path to Series C >$10M. Network with investors and other entrepreneurs growing their firms.

David Yeh
Venture Capitalist
Private Investor

David Yeh is a private cleantech investor who has been investing in the sector for the last 10 years in the EU, China, and USA. Most recently, he was the first hire for Generation IMs private equity effort where he helped launch the $683mm Climate Solutions fund. David has also help create a $200mm a year energy efficiency (CHUEE) program for IFC and Ministry of Finance in China.

Prior to being a VC, David was a strategy consultant where he published two articles on corporate strategy. David started his career at an environmental NGO where he helped build the Headwaters Coalition that helped protect 44K acres of old growth redwood forest.

David holds a BA from Dartmouth College and a MBA from the Wharton School of Business. David has sat on boards of several growth technology and data services companies.

Michael Adams
Vice President-Corporate Strategy and Development
Constellation Energy

Mike leads Constellations assessment of new energy technology and innovation across the companys business units. In his current capacity, Mike is responsible for seeking energy technology investments for Constellation which represent long-term industry growth opportunities and complement current business lines. Previously, he was Vice President and Director in Portfolio Management for Constellation Energy Resources (CER) in the Baltimore office, where he managed generation entitlements and load-serving obligations for portfolios in New England and the Southeast.

Mike earned a B.S in Environmental Engineering from North Carolina State University and an SM in Civil Engineering and SM in Technology and Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Zachary Shulman
Managing Partner
Cayuga Venture Fund

Zachary Shulman has been since 2004 a Managing Partner at Cayuga Venture Fund, a venture capital fund based in Ithaca, NY. He currently serves on the boards of Primet Precision Materials, Advion BioSciences, e2e Materials, Instinctiv and CherryPharm.

Zach has also been since 2002 a Senior Lecturer of Entrepreneurship at The Johnson School at Cornell University where he teaches courses on startups and venture capital financing. Zach also heads up programmatic activities at the newly created Entrepreneursship and Innovation Institute at the The Johnson School.

From January 1999 through March 2002, Shulman served as General Counsel and Chief Investor Relations Officer of Spike Broadband Systems. While at Spike, Shulman negotiated and closed over $80 million in venture capital financing. Prior to joining Spike, Shulman was an associate at the law firm of Harris Beach in Ithaca, New York from 1996-1999. Before Harris Beach, Shulman was an associate at Ropes & Gray in Boston, Massachusetts from 1990-1996.

Shulman earned a Bachelor of Science from the Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations and graduated from Cornell University Law School, magna cum laude, in 1990.

Larry Thomas
President & CEO
Primet Precision Materials, Inc.

Larry has 25 years of experience in the specialty chemical industry. He has held commercial and general management roles for global businesses at Air Products & Chemicals and Dow Chemical. He has been responsible for commercialization of new technologies in areas as diverse as engineering plastics, polymer emulsions, nanotechnology, organic electronics, and lithium ion batteries. He holds an MBA from the University of Chicago and a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Virginia.

David H. Wells
Greentech Investing Team
Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers

David joined the Greentech investing team at Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers in May 2006.

Responsibilities include knowledge mapping and opportunity sourcing across the entire landscape of Green technologies. Building relationships with scientists and entrepreneurs throughout the US and Europe, David has helped bring many ventures through the KP investment process including due diligence, investment structuring, goal setting, and team building.

Beginning with a collaboration with KP partner Bill Joy in 2004, David has built a detailed and diverse base of Greentech knowledge across multiple energy technologies and scientific disciplines, together with a matching knowledge base of resources, markets and incumbents. Every aspect of energy, planetary resources, and emissions has been studied in detail and mapped to target recognition of disruptive order-of-magnitude and tipping-point innovations.

Davids background includes ten years of technical experience in marine and shipboard engineering, and eight years building and selling a nation-wide business in Japan.
