Mitsubishi Outlander Heads For the U.S after Its Japan Debut

Recently Mitsubishi launched the redesigned Outlander in Japan and the automaker is now getting ready to launch it in the U.S. by early next summer, most probably as a 2014 model. “We have not determined the pricing at this moment,” wrote Roger Yasukawa, a Mitsubishi Motors North America spokesman, in response to an e-mailed query. The Outlander earlier went on sale in Russia and Europe. This successor of the previous Outlander core model amicably balances high levels of safety, high fuel efficiency, and extended utility to offer a premium driving experience. The seven-passenger Outlander will be offered in U.S. at an equivalent of $30,271.

The vehicle tops out at $38,664 in the home market. In a statement Mitsubishi confirmed that the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid will debut in Japan first in early 2013 and the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid will land in the U.S. in late 2013 or early 2014. This version of the Outlander will be equipped with a full-time four-wheel-drive system motorized by electric motors. The 2014 Outlander “will have great fuel efficiency, upgraded interior and various advanced safety features.” Roger Yasukawa said. As per the EPA the 2013 Outlander in two-wheel drive is equipped with the 2.4 liter four-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission will return 22 mpg in city and 28 mpg on the highway.
