Charging Stations For Electric Cars Discussed

A Park Ridge resident would like to see the city install charging stations for electric vehicles in the municipal parking lots.

Tim Milburn of Green Way Smart Transportation explained the stations could attract drivers of the cars to nearby businesses instead of to other areas where they could not charge their vehicles while driving.

Milburn addressed the Committee of the Whole on Monday, Oct. 8. He said there are currently 640 electric cars in Illinois and 460 public chargers. By 2015, it is expected there will be more than 16,000 electric vehicles on the road in the state. “We need to be looking forward. It’s happening now and it’s going to continue to happen,” he said.

He showed aldermen different types of chargers and suggested installing them at public parking lots.
