Scotland’s EV charging points to increase

Scotland is to receive an extra 250 charging points for electric vehicles (EV) by March 2013, it has been announced.

Transport Scotland’s 500 existing public, free to use, charging facilities will also be joining the Charge Your Car UK network prior to the installation of further charging stations.

The network is Britain’s first open access system. Launched in 2010 as the North East Plugged in Places scheme, it is designed to allow EVs to drive freely by increasing the number of available charging points.

Mike Foster, senior project manager at Transport Scotland, said: “Transport Scotland is putting in place the infrastructure that will enable Scotland’s motorists to purchase and operate electric vehicles.”
