Report: Tesla planning a compact SUV, Roadster successor for 2016

According to the real-life Tony Stark, founder of Tesla Motors, the electric-car company is planning two additional models that will launch in 2016. The first is a small crossover SUV that will compete with the likes of the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLK. The second is a successor to the discontinued Tesla Roadster.

The move will bring the total number of vehicles offered by Tesla Motors to five – joining the current Model S and upcoming Model X and planned entry-level sedan due for 2015 with a starting price tag of $30,000.

In a recent interview with Wired magazine, Musk said that “We’ll do the X3 equivalent [crossover] and then a Roadster follow-up in parallel.”
