USA: CMP evaluating electric vehicles

Central Maine Power is testing electric vehicles in its fleet.

AUGUSTA — Central Maine Power Co. has begun a comprehensive evaluation of plug-in electric vehicles by adding electric cars and trucks to its fleet.

The project is the first of three electric vehicle pilot programs the utility plans to carry out under an agreement with the Maine Public Utilities Commission, and data on the energy used to power the vehicles and their efficiency will be reported back to the MPUC, according to spokeswoman Gail Rice.

CMP President and Chief Executive Officer Sara Burns said, “Considering the advancements made in electric-vehicle technology in recent years, the time is right for us to get some firsthand experience with some of these vehicles. Employees from CMP field locations and corporate offices are using these vehicles daily and providing valuable feedback on their experiences.”
