Princeton Satellite Systems introduces solar-powered charging station for electric cars

HAMILTON — Princeton Satellite Systems of Plainsboro yesterday unveiled the SunStation, a solar-powered charging system for electric cars.
The SunStation, demonstrated on the grounds of fiber-optics company Princetel in Hamilton, can fully power an electric car such as the Nissan Leaf in five hours, said Michael Paluszek, president of Princeton Satellite Systems.
The company, which is also developing technology for wind turbines, lighter-than-air vehicles, and other technology, plans to market the charger to malls, corporations and “green-minded” businesses, said Eloisa de Castro, chief mechanical engineer.
“Other charging stations require you to put them where you have access to power. It reduces your flexibility,” Paluszek said.
