Nearly 261 of the company’s 2012 model i-MiEV EVs are affected by the recall due to an incompatibility between the airbag sensors and the self-diagnostic software, which may cause the airbags not to deploy during a crash.
According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the deactivation of airbag system would lead to illumination of a warning light to alert the driver.
Mitsubishi is also recalling some vehicles in Canada too over the similar issue.
