Mitsubishi Stops Production of Peugeot iOn & Citroen C-Zero

Lower-than expected sales have forced Mitsubishi Motors to terminate the production of Peugeot iOn and Citroen C-Zero. However, Mitsubishi and PSA Peugeot Citroen have said that this was just a temporary halt.

Peugeot iOn and Citroen C-Zero are based on Mitsubishi’s i-MiEV. Both were produced in Mizushima,Japan. According to the date released by market research firm JATO Dynamics, PSA managed to sell only 935 units of Citroen C-Zero and 852 Peugeot iOns in Europe in the first six months of the year.

The original i-MiEV was introduced in 2009. The C-Zero and iOn came out in 2010. As per the deal between Mitsubishi and PSA, the Japanese car maker was supposed to ship 100,000 cars. But since 2010, Mitsubishi has built only 29,000 units of all three models.
