Australia: Commodore breaks electric car distance record

The fully electric, and battery-switchable, Holden Commodore (pictured) achieved a milestone for electric cars – by breaking the EV distance record.
The Australian vehicle achieved 1,172miles in a 24hr period with a team of 16 engineers and technicians driving one loop each of 75.8miles on public roads between Port Melbourne and Geelong.
According to Ian McCleave, the CEO of EV engineering for Holden, the achievement is a clear indication of the Holden Commodore’s capabilities. He believes the battery switch technology was the key to success as they were able to quickly swap a fully depleted battery for a fully charged one – meaning there was no need to park the car and recharge.
