USA: Th!nk Again – great deal on new EVs!

Just over a month ago I announced the last call to buy a 2011 Th!nk City EV. These cars can go 70 MPH on the freeway and have a range of up to 100 miles per charge. At that time I was told that in order for the manufacturer to get the CARB ZEV credits for the 2011 models in California, they needed to be registered by the end of June. There were still a few cars left in San Jose and the plan was send any unsold Th!nks back to the manufacturer so they could be sold in other states.

Well the response was better than expected. All of those cars were sold so they did not have to send any back. In fact there were several people interested after all the cars were gone. I am not sure what the story is with the ZEV credits, however the factory is sending another truckload of Th!nk City cars to San Jose for those buyers who have already placed a deposit. The price is the same $22,300 as before – a great discount from the original price of around $36K. The $2500 state rebate and $7500 federal tax credit bring the final cost to under $15K after all DMV fees, etc. are paid.

Half of the cars being sent out already have been reserved with deposits. All of the red and blue cars on the truck are spoken for.
That leaves about 5 black cars that are still up for grabs. The auto transport truck left the factory in Indiana yesterday and should be in San Jose on Thursday, July 19th. If you missed out on this deal before and want to get in on it now, here’s your chance.

I will see if I can borrow a car from the dealer and bring it to the EAA meeting this Saturday at HP in Cupertino for anyone interested in a test drive.
Here is a link to the info about the meeting:
For more details on the Th!nk City EV, I have copied and pasted the info below from the “Last Call” email I sent in June.

It takes a few days for the registration to occur due to the use of a third party called “Road Ready Registration” who is handling that part of the transaction. These cars are also eligible for the white carpool lane stickers. There is a 3 year bumper-to-bumper warranty and service is available at a shop in Santa Clara.

So how do you take advantage of this deal?
Simple – just call Tom DieBold at Mission Valley Ford and let him know you want to take a test drive. If you like the car, you can put down a refundable deposit while you arrange financing and insurance. Tom can give you information on where to get financing and insurance if you don’t already know who to contact. A check for the entire amount is paid directly to Th!nk and a separate check is paid for the registration. It’s that simple.

The cars are being sold directly by the manufacturer. The Ford dealership is merely acting as the delivery agent.
The dealership is closed on Sundays. Hours are 8 AM to 6 PM Monday – Friday and 9 AM to 4 PM on Saturday.
They are located next door to the big Fry’s Electronics store at Freeway 880 and Brokaw Road.

Here is the contact information:

Mission Valley Ford Truck Center
780 East Brokaw Road
San Jose, CA. 95112

If you want more info on the car and the deal, here is a link to an article I wrote previously that describes it all:

s a special bonus, Bob Garzee of the Green Team has arranged for Th!nk North America to donate $350 to Breathe California for every car sold.

Don’t miss this chance to get an EV that can go 70 MPH with the same range as a Nissan LEAF for a very affordable price.
