When Tulsa’s Frances Haas wanted the newest in green automotive technology, she had to place a pre-order for a Nissan Leaf in Austin, Texas, then go pick up the car and bring it back to Tulsa.
Haas, a doctor from Tulsa, and husband Murray Thibodeaux put a deposit down for the all-electric car with 100-mile range more than three years ago and were able to finally pick it up in October 2011.

But they were months ahead of other Tulsans, who were only able to start ordering the car in March 2012.

“She likes it so much that she finally said we can sell her other car,” Thibodeaux said. “She drives it 20 miles to work and back every day, and it only costs us about $32 a month worth of electricity.”
