No cables, no problem: Qualcomm gets into wireless charging for electric cars

Imagine not even having to plug in your electric car. Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt owners are already smug about not having to go to gas stations, but at least pulling into their garages calls for plugging into the wall.

Now Qualcomm Inc., based out of San Diego, plans on starting a field test of its own wireless charging system in London later this year, according to Forbes:

Qualcomm’s wireless charging technology is based on the concept of inductive power transfer, where two coils are tuned to generate a magnetic field in which power moves from one point to another.
