Europe: Fast charging hybrid bus project arrives in Sweden

Plug-in hybrid buses seem like a fantastic idea for the environment – carrying more passengers at once than conventional cars and offering lower emissions than regular buses. However, if it can take around eight hours to charge an electric car, think of the time it would take to power a plug-in hybrid bus for its journey.
However, now the problem of charging times has been addressed in the Swedish city of Gothenburg.

That’s because Goteborg Energi, which provides electricity in the city, has awarded a contract to Opbrid SL to provide two ultra-fast bus charging stations in the city as part of its demonstration project that sees three Volvo plug-in hybrid buses (pictured) take to the roads and charge in just five-eight minutes at the end of the line.
