Canada: Electric Hope is Growing on our Streets

I recently drove all electric for 3 days, in a Mitsubishi i-MiEV.

When the car was delivered to my house – on the platform of a tow truck -, it showed a 111 km of pure electric range. Hurrah! I decided to go to the gym, and to take the highway to do so. After the 12 km drive to get there, that range had rather robbed me of 25 km! If I extrapolate, I was about to spend only half of the kilometers stored. Not exactly reassuring when you plan a trip to the countryside!

Mitsubishi tells me however that the i-MiEV is an urban car, whose range is optimized when driven in the city and in traffic congestions. The battery is then regenerated by the transfer of the energy created by the breaking system. Any way, I didn’t risk going too far and as soon as I got back home, I managed to recharge the battery as much as time allowed me to.

A little bundle of rechargeable energy

The Mitsubishi i-MiEV is a 5-door hatchback subcompact car with room for four. According to its manufacturer, it can reach a 155 kilometers range. It is the only all-electric car sold in Canada that comes with a fast charge DC outlet as standard equipment. We’re told that it can fully charge the battery in less than 30 minutes.
