USA: 2013 Tesla Model S Signature Series Is Sold Out

Just the Facts:
The 2013 Tesla Model S Signature model is sold out, even the top-of-the-line Model S Signature Performance model priced at $105,400, according to the Tesla Web site.
A new Tesla Model S configurator is noteworthy because it illustrates the wide gulf between the base Model S, which starts at $57,400, and the more expensive performance versions of the car.
Pricing does not include a destination charge and does not reflect a $7,500 federal tax credit.

PALO ALTO, California — The top-of-the-line 2013 Tesla Model S Signature Performance model carries a sticker price of $105,400, according to a new Tesla online configurator, making that version of the sedan almost as expensive as the discontinued Tesla Roadster. That doesn’t seem to bother customers: The Model S Signature series is already sold out before the first car has been delivered, according to Tesla.

According to Tesla’s Web site, the company is no longer taking deposits for the Model S Signature and has started a waiting list. Tesla is still taking $5,000 deposits on the base Model S.

Tesla also has begun accepting deposits on the 2014 Model X crossover — $5,000 on the standard Model X, with deliveries starting in early 2014, and $40,000 on the limited-edition Model X Signature, with the first customer cars due to arrive in late 2013.

The Model S has been touted by the electric car start-up as an “affordable electric sedan.” The 2011 Tesla Roadster was last priced from $110,950, including a $1,950 destination charge. Tesla is no longer taking orders for the Roadster.
