USA: 67 dealers can sell electrics

Ford’s foray into electric vehicles is under way with the first 67 dealers certified to sell the 2012 Focus Electric beginning this spring.

The dealers are in California, New York and New Jersey. Distribution is to expand to 19 markets by fall. The car is to be available nationwide by the end of the year. Dealers must have at least two onsite charging stations and complete specialized training in electric vehicles.

The Focus Electric has an Environmental Protection Agency certification of 105 m.p.g. in combined city and highway driving even though it’s an all-electric car.

Focus Electric production began in December at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne.
