Australia: UNVEILING OF NEW ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATION IN MELBOURNE

CANBERRA, ACT, May 16 — Minister for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, Greg Combet, issued the following media release:
The Minister for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, Greg Combet, welcomed today’s unveiling of a new electric vehicle charging station in Melbourne as a sign of how innovation is delivering more environmentally-friendly transport choices for motorists.
Mr Combet joined Melbourne’s Lord Mayor Robert Doyle, Holden’s executive director of engineering Greg Tyus and ChargePoint chief executive officer James Brown to plug in a Holden Volt electric car at the charging station outside Holden’s Port Melbourne headquarters.

The charging station technology, powered by certified Green Energy, delivers fast charging to electric vehicles like the Volt which Holden will introduce to the Australian market later this year.
Mr Combet said the development of low and zero-emissions cars and renewable energy based charging infrastructure showed industry was innovating to meet consumer demand for cleaner motoring.
“To tackle climate change we need cleaner technologies and energy sources that will reduce the amount of carbon pollution we release into the atmosphere,” Mr Combet said.
