USA: Oregon Gets More Electric-Car Charger Funds

WASHINGTON — Oregon senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden announced Tuesday that the Oregon Department of Transportation has been awarded an additional $1.3 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation to install 13 fast charge electric vehicle stations in Oregon as part of the Oregon Electric Vehicle Corridor project.

“One third of all oil is burned in cars. We’ve got to break our addiction to overseas oil and electric vehicles are a great place to start,” said Merkley. “There is tremendous work going on in the state as we put charging stations along I-5 and throughout Northwest Oregon. This funding will help Oregon be a national leader in EV’s.”

“As the price of gasoline continues to hover around the four dollar per gallon mark, American consumers are looking more closely than ever for vehicles that use alternative fuels, including electric vehicles,” Wyden said. “With more and more electric vehicles hitting the road, it is crucial that we expand Oregon’s existing network of charging stations. That’s what this $1.3 million will do.”
