USA: Only good things to say about Volt

Morton, Ill. —
Martin Hobbs of Eureka purchased a Chevy Volt on Dec. 9, 2011, and the car made quite an impression on the East Peoria Green Team when he brought it by for their inspection earlier this year.

It was also on display at the Green Carnival a couple of weeks ago.

Hobbs said he has put more than 5,000 miles on the car and used only 45 gallons of gas. Using the gas generator backup in that time has given him gas mileage averaging 110 mpg.

“Based on my previous car’s average mileage of 30 mpg, I have saved the use of about 120 gallons of gas,” Hobbs said.

“Also due to the limited use of gasoline I only have to change my oil every two years or so. I get an average of 35 miles per (electric) charge, more than that in the city, slightly less than that on the highway and interstate,” Hobbs said.

“I pay about 50-75 cents in electricity costs for a full charge. Even though I’m using mostly coal fired electricity, it has been proven to be much cleaner than gasoline.”
