USA: Boynton Beach will unveil solar projects, electric vehicle charging stations.

BOYNTON BEACH — The city will hold two “green” events next Saturday to kick off Earth Day and the city’s Earth Week celebration.

At 9 a.m., it will dedicate new solar panels and a solar water heater project at Fire Station 5, at High Ridge Road just south of Gateway Boulevard, which also serves as the administration building for the city’s fire-rescue department.

And at 10 a.m., it will cut the ribbon on two electric vehicle charging stations at the southwest parking lot of the city library, 208 S. Seacrest Blvd. Also on hand will be a Tesla roadster electric vehicle.

The stations comprise a project that will cost about $19,550. A federal Department of Energy grant covers $12,654 of that, with the rest coming from a city energy and environment initiatives fund. Each station costs about $1,500 to install
