UK: Renault launches ‘baby’ electric vehicle in UK

Renault launched its third electric vehicle in the UK on Friday, the ‘baby’ of the family so far, the two-seater compact Twizy.
The quadricycle, which is priced from £6,690 on the road with battery hire available from £45 a month, is now available for test driving from select dealers in larger urban and suburban areas.
The futuristic looking vehicle is powered by a 13 kW (17 hp) motor with a top speed of 50 mph. It is charged using a standard three-pin plug, which takes around three-and-a-half hours and costs just £1, according to Renault, depending on the tariff and supplier. Each charge gives the vehicle a range of around 60 miles.
Renault is considering launching a lower powered version of the vehicle, the Twizy 45 with a top speed of 28 mph, in the UK after a new category of the European licence for 16-year-olds and over was confirmed to take effect from next January.
Meanwhile, Nissan will be showcasing its electric e-NV200 van at Silverstone this week at the EV & Low CO2 Fleet Show ahead of the start of full production next year.
The van, which is currently being tested by British Gas and the Japan Post Service in Yokohama, has also been trialled by FedEx in London.
Other new vehicles on show will be Renault’s electric Kangoo Van ZE, the Peugeot 508 RXH, which features the company’s diesel-electric HYbrid4 technology, and new low-carbon models from BMW, Infiniti, Lexus Toyota and Vauxhall, as well as commercial vehicles from Smith Electric Vehicles.
