USA: Electric car tests at energy centre

Drivers will be able to test and rent electric cars at a new energy centre launched this week.

Renewable energy firm SSE is opening an exhibition in Glasgow city centre which will include the UK’s first dedicated free electric vehicle charging, hiring and parking facility. There will be six charging-parking spaces at the permanent site, and electric scooters and bikes will also be available to rent for those who prefer two wheels.

The Waterloo Street exhibition, called “Power of Now”, aims to demonstrate Scotland’s potential in renewable energy through production, design, engineering and manufacturing.

SSE said the generation of electricity from renewable sources will play a significant role in achieving UK carbon reduction targets.

SSE chief executive Ian Marchant added: “We are very proud to bring the Power of Now to Glasgow, one of Europe’s most sustainable cities, and believe our investment and partnership working will bring environmental, economic and social benefits for generations to come to all who either visit for educational purposes or use the all-electric facility.”
