UK: Electric car charging points to be installed at three hotels

Three hotels in Rutland will install electric car charging points by the end of the month as part of a network across the county.

It’s part of an ambitious plan, led by community group Uppingham First to set up 20 such points.

The county, which relies heavily on tourism – said to be worth £90 million a year and employing 1,400 people – wants to make sure drivers of the limited-range electric vehicles are catered for.

The Falcon Hotel, in Uppingham, Greetham Valley Hotel and Golf Club and the Barnsdale Lodge Hotel on the shores of Rutland Water will be the first businesses to install the charging points.

The scheme will attract 40 per cent Government funding towards the £3,000 cost of each point.

Public charging points, which will attract a 60 per cent Government grant, will be installed in the centre of Uppingham and Oakham before the end of the year.
