UK: County rolls out electric car charging point project

THREE hotels have signed up to become the first businesses in Rutland to have electric car charging points.

The Falcon Hotel in High Street East, Uppingham, Greetham Valley Hotel, Golf and Conference Centre and Barnsdale Lodge Hotel will all have electric car charging points by the end of March.

It is the first phase of an ongoing project to make the county to first in the country to be completely electric car savvy.

By the end of the year there will be public car charging points in Uppingham and Oakham town centres and there are a number of pubs and tourist attractions which have expressed an interest in installing the equipment.

For project leader Ron Simpson of Hawthorn Drive, Uppingham, it the start of something very exciting.

He said: “I am delighted that a number of the leading hotels in the county have decided to lead the field and establish charging points.

“We have got hotels in the north, centre and south of the county signed up which already gives us good coverage.”

Cenex which is based at Loughborough University and is leading the East Midlands “Plugged in Places” project has commended the Local Strategic Partnership in Rutland for being the first county to roll out the project.

For Ron it is also an exciting time in the history of Uppingham.
