USA: MLGW to show off electric vehicles

Memphis Light Gas and Water will unveil its new electric vehicles Thursday during its Board of Commissioners meeting.

The four Nissan Leaf vehicles will be presented at 1:30 in the utility’s Second Street parking garage. The vehicles will be used by the electric operations, residential services and gas operations departments. One vehicle also will be in the general motor pool.

In February 2011, Memphis was added to the EV Project, a federal and privately funded $230 million venture designed to increase adoption of electric vehicles and install charging infrastructure in Tennessee, Texas, Arizona, California, Oregon and Washington.

In Tennessee, Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga were picked for private and public access EV charging stations.
