USA: Hertz to Test Plugless Power on Nissan Leaf

Plugless Power E.V. system, which uses inductive charging to wirelessly charge an electric vehicle.

¶Hertz will be one of six companies and academic organizations taking part in a three-month pilot program to test wireless electric car-charging technology.

¶The test is organized by Plugless Power, a brand created by the Virginia-based MTC Transformers. Evatran, a subsidiary of MTC, developed the company’s charging solution, one in a broadening field of wireless-charging products intended for home and fleet use. (WiTricity, another developer, has research projects in progress with Toyota and Mitsubishi, and HaloIPT, which was acquired last year by the wireless technology conglomerate Qualcomm, is expected to introduce a demo program in London this year.)
