OAK RIDGE, Tenn. —
Oak Ridge Associated Universities is home to eight new electric vehicle charging stations. ORAU volunteered to host the stations as part of its commitment to environmentally sustainable practices.
“We’re pleased to have the Blink charging stations located on our site,” ORAU Executive Vice President Eric Abelquist said in a news release. “We have a strong environmental management program at ORAU, so we jumped at the chance to help our employees and visitors embrace alternative energy vehicles.”
The charging stations are located outside four buildings on ORAU’s main campus adjacent to South Illinois Avenue. The stations are owned and operated by San Francisco-based ECOtality and require a Blink Network membership card for use. More information about the stations is available at www.blinknetwork.com.
ORAU is hosting the charging stations as part of the EV Project, the largest deployment of electric vehicles and charge infrastructure in history. ECOtality received an initial grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to embark on the EV Project in August 2009, and the total value of this three-year project is now approximately $230 million. ECOtality is deploying approximately 14,000 chargers across six states and the District of Columbia.
ECOtality Inc. is described in the news release as a leader in clean electric transportation and storage technologies. For more information about ECOtality Inc., visit www.ecotality.com.
