USA: Calling All (Electric) Cars to Lexington Center

The town will formally introduce its new electric vehicle charging stations to the public with a Feb. 27 ribbon-cutting ceremony in the municipal lot behind the NSTAR building.

Not long ago, Lexington’s first electric vehicle charging stations came online in a parking lot just outside of the town center. Next Monday, local officials plan to formally introduce them to the public.

The Board of Selectmen and members of the Transportation Advisory Committee are inviting community members to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony to launch the EV charging stations, located in the parking lot at 4 Grant St., just behind the NSTAR building.

Lexington was one of 25 Massachusetts cities and towns to be granted EV charging stations through a state program announced over the summer on the Battle Green.

And in the months that followed that award, officials set to determining where the stations – a total of four were available to the town under the grant – should be located.

There were thoughts of citing EV stations in the Lexington Center and an industrial area, such as around Hartwell Avenue or the Shire complex, but those plans have fallen through, according to officials.
