USA: Airport to install electric vehicle charger

Holland —

An electric vehicle charging station will be installed at the West Michigan Regional Airport at a cost of $6,300.

The West Michigan Airport Authority approved the expenditure at its February meeting.

Although some on the board questioned spending the money and asked if it could be recouped in some way, the plan to move ahead with installation approved unanimously.

“I see this as an amenity we’re offering,” Holland Interim City Manager Greg Robinson said.

This will be the 18th installation by the Holland Board of Public Works, which has acquired the chargers at no cost through grants. The BPW paid for the installation of its 17 units. The airport authority is responsible for the cost of installing the unit at the airport.

Board member Jim Wiersma questioned if any of the BPW’s stations were ever used, saying he works near one of the stations on Eighth Street in downtown Holland and has never seen a car plugged in there.
