Hanover Mall adds electric-vehicle charging stations

The landscape of the Hanover Mall parking lot has taken an environmentally-friendly turn with the addition of two electric-vehicle charging stations next to Rockland Federal Credit Union.

The stations are among 30 being installed by National Grid throughout the state under the Department of Energy’s “ChargePoint America” program. The federal agency funds the charging stations, which are made by Coulomb Technologies. National Grid installs and maintains ownership while the hosting location – in this case, the Hanover Mall – absorbs the cost of the monthly electric bill during the two-year program.

The goal is to accelerate the development and production of electric vehicles and showcase their benefits by providing free charging to consumers.

Depending upon a vehicle’s make, model and level of technology, charge times vary between two to eight hours.

National Grid officials said the installation of all 30 stations will be complete by the end of this month – with stations in Rockland, Weymouth, Foxboro, Easton and West Bridgewater, among other sites.
