USA: Volkswagen unveils Jetta Hybrid, E-Bugster electric vehicle

Volkswagen brought all of its board members and CEO Martin Winkertorn to Detroit to reveal two vehicles today: The 2013 Jetta Hybrid and the pure electric E-Bugster.

The Jetta Hybrid will be launched in the U.S. at the end of 2012 while the Bugster – a version of the Beetle with a lower roof – is a pure electric car. It has a 114-horsepower electric motor and a 100-mile range. Both were revealed today at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The Jetta Hybrid and the Bugster are Volkswagen’s latest cars that are part of a broader product onslaught that Volkswagen hopes will boost its total U.S. sales to more than 1 million by 2018 for all of its brands.

The German automaker’s sales grew by 40% globally in 2011 and by 23% in the U.S. In 2012. Volkswagen said it expects sales to increase 12.5% to more than 500,000.
