USA: Honda Fit electric vehicle enters US market, to be made available for lease in select cities

Just two months after debuting at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the Honda Fit electric vehicle has made its first entry into the U.S. market in the city of Torrance, California.

The Fit EV is an electrified version of the automaker’s popular Fit model which uses a lithium-ion battery to provide a range of some 76 miles (122 km) before a recharge, which takes three hours using a 240-volt circuit.

Honda delivered the first Fit EV last week to Torrance, which is the first in a series of US partners to be leasing the model before its rollout to showrooms for sale.

Other leasers should be able to get their hands on the model from summer, Honda said at the LA Auto Show.

Leasing is an increasingly popular way for automakers to test electric vehicles before putting them on general sale in showrooms — and sometimes, it’s even possible to inject a little fun into it.
