The N.C. Department of Transportation is holding a Wednesday morning ribbon-cutting to unveil one of the first electric car charging stations at a state rest area.

The charging station is at the Alamance County Rest Area on Interstate 40/Interstate 85 near Burlington, according to a DOT news release. The rest area is about a mile east of Exit 138 on I-40.

There is also an electric vehicle charging station at the rest area at the Interstate 40/Interstate 95 junction near Benson, which draws more than 1 million visitors annually. The stations, provided by Raleigh-based Praxis Technologies Inc., were purchased with a grant from the Green Business Fund Program of the N.C. On Wednesday morning, officials will use a Nissan Leaf to demonstrate how to use the charging station.
