USA: Delta subsidiary gets US government funding for R&D on electric vehicle chargers

Taiwan-based Delta Electronics has announced that the US Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded funding of nearly US$2 million to Delta Products, its US-based subsidiary, for a research project to develop residential electric vehicle chargers which are cost-effective and can be connected to smart grids of electricity over the next three years, in an attempt to facilitate deployment of charging infrastructure for plug-in electric vehicles.

Delta Products will team up with utility companies and automobile manufacturers in North America to develop innovative electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) to minimize cost of communications between chargers and grids and meet local demand for smart charging, Delta Electronics said.
