Tesla’s electric supercar discounted

Prices cut to make way for new-model onslaught.

California-based electric car company Tesla Motors has slashed the price of its Roadster by more than $20,000 as a last hurrah for the four-year-old sports car before it unleashes “a new, compelling product every year”, it says.

Now priced from $191,888 plus on-road and dealer costs, the entry-model Roadster 2.5 costs $14,300 less thanks to “favourable exchange rates”, according to the US-based company, while the range-topping Roadster 2.5 Sport is now $21,450 cheaper (from $220,488).

“Our main objective is to relentlessly drive down the cost of electric vehicles,” Tesla Motors Australian regional manager Jay McCormack says. “Our end result is to offer – both in premium and in mainstream – affordable electric vehicles for everybody.”
