Canada: Big concepts in small packages provide glimpse of future

Concept cars are a staple of any car show, and the 44th edition of the Montreal International Auto show is no exception.

Visitors to the show, which runs until Jan. 22, can catch a glimpse of the Canadian premieres of the Mitsubishi Global Small concept, the Kia KV7 and the Nissan Leaf Nismo RC, an all-electric racing car.

Mitsubishi, which also showed off its Lancer SE AWC, has brought the Global Small concept car to Canada for the first time.

The automaker says this concept represents a new generation of small, affordable vehicles. A production version of this model will be coming to Canada in 2013, but it goes on sale in Thailand in March and will be known as the Mirage.

The five-door, five-passenger vehicle features a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder engine and it aims to achieve fuel efficiency of 3.3 litres per 100 kilometres.
