USA: Evanston eyes more electric vehicle charging stations

Electric vehicle owners could find more options for charging their vehicles in Evanston.

At the city council meeting on Monday, aldermen will be asked to authorize the city manager to negotiate an agreement for the installation of two public electric vehicle charging stations in each of three city parking garages.

Aldermen initially signed off on plans for an agreement between the city and the non-profit car-sharing company I-GO to install solar canopies and electric vehicle charging stations at three city-owned parking lots: Lot 4 on Central Street, Lot 32 on Hinman Avenue and Lot 3 behind the Evanston Public Library.

The company that plans to provide those charging stations for I-GO, 350Green, floated the idea of installing two stations at the Sherman Plaza, Maple Avenue and Church Street parking garages, according to a staff memo. The stations would be open to the public, but operated and maintained by 350Green, the memo states.
