USA: Plugging in: Ford looks to C-Max hybrids, Focus Electric to lead electrified lineup

Ford Motor Co. Director of Global Electrification Nancy Gioia knows the current range of all-electric vehicles won’t fit everyone’s needs.

“Some people will say, ‘no, I need a larger vehicle; something to tow; I have different needs; I have distances that are exceeding my comfort level,’ ” she told earlier this month at the Center for Automotive Research’s Business of Plugging In electric vehicle conference in Dearborn.

For those reasons, the Dearborn automaker’s Focus Electric isn’t the only vehicle Ford expects to roll-out in the next year or so for customers seeking better fuel efficiency.

Following the launch of the Focus Electric, Ford expects to launch its all-new C-Max crossover vehicle in 2012, available in hybrid and plug-in hybrid.

“We see those as choices that consumers will make based on their driving,” Gioia said. “It’s a plethora of choices.”
