USA: Johnson Controls invests in local developer of plug-in hybrid technology

Odyne Systems of Waukesha and Johnson Controls have announced a supply and investment agreement Wednesday to fund Odyne’s expansion.

Odyne develops modular plug-in hybrid systems for medium and heavy duty trucks.

The companies announced that Johnson Controls has made a strategic investmet in Odyne to fund expansion and accelerate broad commercialization of Odyne’s hybrid systems.

At the same time, Odyne designated Johnson Controls-Saft as a “preferred supplier” of lithium-ion battery systems for Odyne’s plug-in hybrid system.

Odyne says its modular plug-in hybrid system boosts a large truck’s efficiency through operation of the hybrid system on the road, as well as use of the battery system at a job site. The system is designed to be installed on new and existing vehicles.
