USA: Electric Vehicles Standards Panel to Host First Plenary June 20-21 in Detroit

Electric Vehicles Standards Panel Overview

Among emerging areas of technology, few are as exciting as electric vehicles with their potential for energy independence, reduced carbon emissions, and economic growth. The standardization community has a critical job to do to ensure that the technologies and infrastructure are safe and effective.

The ANSI Electric Vehicles Standards Panel (EVSP) is a cross-sector coordinating body whose objective is to foster coordination and collaboration on standardization matters among public and private sector stakeholders to enable the safe, mass deployment of electric vehicles and associated infrastructure in the United States with international coordination, adaptability, and engagement.

The EVSP will aim to produce a strategic roadmap of the standards and conformity assessment programs needed to facilitate the widespread acceptance and deployment of electric vehicles. The goal is to develop version one of the roadmap this year. The panel will also provide on behalf of ANSI coherent and coordinated U.S. policy and technical input to relevant regional and international audiences on needed standards and conformity assessment programs in this area. In addition, the panel will liaise and coordinate as appropriate with other electric vehicle initiatives that are being undertaken.

Participation

The EVSP provides a forum for the development of the public-private partnership needed to facilitate the large scale introduction of electric vehicles into the market. Participation in the EVSP is open to all affected parties. Participants will include representatives of the automotive, electrotechnical and utilities industries, relevant trade associations, standards development and conformity assessment organizations, government agencies, and academia, providing a range of perspectives.

We encourage those who wish to participate to review the materials below and the May 17, 2011 kickoff webinar slide deck under Meetings below. To join the EVSP, please return the participation response form to evsp@ansi.org. You will need to indicate on the form your organization’s intention to join the panel and pay the appropriate fee, the names of your representatives and the working groups that they wish to participate in. In addition, you may indicate if your organization wishes to take a leadership role by seeking nomination to serve on the Steering Committee or as a working group co-chair.

The roadmap developed by the EVSP will be copyrighted by ANSI. Participants are asked to acknowledge their understanding of this by signing and returning the copyright form below. We will be happy to work with organizations that may have concerns and wish to propose a modification to the form to suit their needs.
