Canada: Province; Hydro partner with Nissan to test electric vehicles

The Selinger government and Manitoba Hydro are partnering with Nissan Canada to advance the use of plug-in electric vehicles in the province.

The deal paves the way for the province and Hydro to test the Nissan Leaf in Manitoba’s unique climatic conditions.

The Nissan Leaf – a medium-size hatchback seating five adults and with a range of 160 kilometres on one full charge – will be rolled-out in select Canadian markets this fall.

Innovation Minister Dave Chomiak cites the low cost and abundance of hydro-electric power in Manitoba… Chomiak says much of the infrastructure supporting electric vehicles is already in place, and Manitobans are accustomed to plugging in their vehicles.
