North-east drivers take delivery of Leaf for EV trial
29 March 2011

Fourteen drivers in the north-east of England have taken delivery of a Nissan Leaf as part of the Switch EV trial.

The trial started in September 2010, leasing electric vehicles (EV) to organisations, councils, car clubs and individuals.

One of just eight projects funded by the government’s Technology Strategy Board’s Ultra Low Carbon Vehicle Demonstrator Programme, it hopes to provide information on living with an EV.

Under the Switch EV trial, the Leaf EVs will be handed to a new group of people after six months.

In total, there are 49 EVs from different manufacturers taking part in the project. The cars are installed with data units that will provide feedback, which will help in the future development of the alternative technology.
