UK: British Make Nissan Deactivate Leaf EV’s Backup Warning Signal

So much for safety! The Brits say the Nissan Leaf pedestrian warning noise system activated when the battery-electric vehicle is reversing has got to go – or be modified so it can be turned off at night – because of noise pollution restrictions.

Nissan has said that the process might cause a slight delay in the arrival on British shores of the first Leafs on order in the country – the cars were to have gone on sale this week – according to an article in the Northern Echo newspaper.

The “whoosh”-like sound effects the car emits when traveling forward hasn’t been touched, though, said Barnard.
