Mitsubishi Unveils U.S. Version of i-MiEV Electric Car

A Bigger Jellybean
These are the first pics of the U.S. version of Mitsubishi’s i-MiEV electric car (let’s hope they find a better name for it by the time it hits the dealerships). It looks pretty similar to the Japanese version, except that it’s bigger; it’s almost a foot longer, in good part thanks to the new bumpers, 4.3 inches wider, and a tiny bit taller.

i MiEV Electric Car Specifications
The i MiEV is powered by a compact 47 kW electric motor (133 lb-ft of torque) and a 330V, 16 kWh lithium-ion battery pack from Lithium Energy Japan (LEJ). LEJ is a joint venture of GS Yuasa Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC). Top speed of the i MiEV is 130 kph (81 mph), with a range of up to 160 km (100 miles) in the Japanese 10-15 cycle driving conditions.

The i-MiEV should hit the US market in 2011 with a base price targeted below US$30,000, prior to the federal tax credit and other incentives available in California and other states. No specific launch date yet, though.
