USA: Plugless Power pushes forward to commercialization

Greetings from Plugless Power! We’ve had some exciting news and announcements recently, and I thought it would be beneficial to update those of you who have been following our work.

Just last month, we sent a team to the Plug-In 2010 Electric Vehicle Conference and Exposition in San Jose, California to debut our hands-free proximity charging system. (Plugless at Plug-In 2010: it was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up!) We knew our booth was going to bring in a lot of interest – but the event could not have gone better for us. Throughout the course of the four day event, we were able to connect with a majority of the major automobile manufacturers looking to release electric vehicles over the next few years. Conversations with them ranged from compatibility to pricing to beginning development programs. We also visited with a number of you, soon-to-be-EV owners through the “Public Night” event. Additionally, we used the conference as a springboard to hold a Press Event to launch some exciting updates from Plugless Power. See below for information regarding our upgradable cord units, compatible with the Nissan Leaf and the Chevy Volt, that allow you to upgrade to convenient, proximity charging as soon as the option is available in 2011. Visit our Facebook Page, using the link below, to check out some pictures from the show and to see some of the press we generated from the event.

Over the summer, we will be releasing our first proximity charging experimental prototypes to our strategic partners for testing and review. We are excited by the caliber of companies that have stepped forward with interest to test our systems in real-life conditions, and we look forward to delivering units to them over the next three months.

We are also excited to announce that we will be welcoming two new Evatran team members over the next month. Charles Brunson, our new Director of Sourcing and Materials Management will be joining the executive team to begin assisting with sourcing work for our station and vehicle adapter manufacturing processes. Charlie brings over 20 years experience in global sourcing with companies such as Thompson Industrial Services, Howden Buffalo, and Meritor. Alex Viva, joining Evatran as National Sales Manager: Distribution and Public Charging, will be joining the Sales and Marketing team to set up Evatran’s full-service installation and maintenance network. Alex will also be tasked with public charging sales strategy development and execution. Alex comes to us with 25 years experience in developing both domestic and international distribution channels for a diverse set of products. We are excited to have these two members joining our Evatran team, and look forward to more new additions in the coming months.

Units available first quarter 2011
At the Plug-In 2010 Conference we announced that we are starting to accept orders for upgradable cord units. These units, available for delivery in first quarter of 2011, allow soon-to-be-EV owners to purchase a recharging system for their new electric vehicle and retain the ability to upgrade that system to include proximity charging. How does it work? Let us know which electric vehicle model you will be purchasing and when you expect delivery, and we will come to your home to install a wall-mount Level II system (240V) to be ready when your new vehicle arrives. When you finally bring your new EV home, our Plugless Power cord unit will be ready to recharge your electric vehicle. Then, as soon as second quarter 2011, a Plugless Power installer will return to your home to upgrade your system to include hands-free, proximity charging. Our cord units are compatible with all electric vehicle models through the J1772 standardized plug and offer the most forward capabilities and designs within the industry. Please contact us at for more information or to sign up.

As always, please let me know if we can answer any questions. Email us regarding an interest in a prototype unit or initial cord unit, look out for a renovation to our website in the next two months, and remember to ask yourself, “why charge tomorrow’s vehicle with yesterday’s technology?”
