USA: Plug in America is looking for an advetising sales manager

Plug In America seeks an outstanding advertising sales manager for the 2011 edition of “Charged Up & Ready To Roll: The Definitive Guide To Plug-in Electric Vehicles,” a unique consumer resource guide first published in January 2010 to great reviews.

We’ll be hiring quickly for this three- to four-month, part-time contract. Work will start a.s.a.p. and run roughly from August through October 2010, with possible minimal duties in November.

You’ll be soliciting and negotiating sales of ads primarily to automakers and affiliated companies such as charging station companies. The 23 advertisers in the 2010 pilot edition are expected to advertise again, and with business booming in the electric-car industry, the total number of advertisers is expected to at least double or triple in the 2011 edition.

Duties:

• Work with Plug In America staff and interns to organize and expand our Excel database of previous and potential advertisers.
• Send advertising rate sheets to candidates and follow up by email and phone.
• Tap the expertise of our board of directors to identify possible new advertisers.
• Coordinate with one of our interns who may assist you.
• Ensure that all artwork, graphics, illustrations, and photographs are delivered on time.
• Invoice advertisers and follow up every two weeks until payment is received.
• Provide twice-monthly project status reports to a Plug In America supervisor.

Desired skills:

• Well organized and reliable
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Previous experience selling advertising
• Attention to details and deadlines
• Familiarity with Excel spreadsheets
• Ability to work independently, to follow directions, and to collaborate
• Upbeat and professional demeanor
• Grace under pressure

Position is not geographically based. Contractor can work in Plug In America’s San Francisco office or remotely. This is an annual publication, so position could turn into an annual contract.
